Chad Michael Memorial Scholarship

On July 1, 2022, the Phi Delta Chi Nu chapter suffered the unmeasurable loss of our brother Chad Michael.

Chad was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 23, 1984. He graduated from North Linn High School in 2003, where he was very active in both wrestling and football. Upon graduating high school, Chad moved to Newport News, Virginia where he had a successful two-year college wrestling career at The Apprentice School where he studied to become a shipboard pipefitter on naval ships. After graduation, he continued to compete competitively in Ju-Jitsu and grappling tournaments for two years before moving back to Iowa to pursue alternative career opportunities.

Back in Iowa, Chad attended Kirkwood Community College for three years before attending the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy to pursue his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In his second year of pharmacy school, Chad played an active role in rechartering the professional pharmacy fraternity, Phi Delta Chi. His peers also elected him to a leadership role as the first Worthy Correspondent.

In addition to his studies and active membership in Phi Delta Chi, Chad was devoted to giving back to his community. He dedicated his weekends to Flu Shot Clinics at local churches and developed a service event from the ground up that enabled our chapter to feed hundreds of food-insecure children.

While studying at the University of Iowa, Chad met the love of his life, Silver Chung. They got engaged while at the University of Iowa and returned to the area to be wed on June 29, 2019, at beautiful ceremony in Coggon, Iowa. Chad and Silver resided in Miami, Florida where she teaches at the Florida International University and Chad worked as a pharmacist for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Chad was a selfless person who we often said was “the glue that held us all together.” He was the person that had a way of bringing out the best in everyone through some of the most stressful times. Chad put everyone first and lived by the Phi Delta Chi motto, Alterum Alterius Auxilio Eget, meaning “Each needs the help of the other.”

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to ensure a permanent yearly scholarship of $1,000 can be awarded in his honor so the joy he gave the world can live on through countless future pharmacists. We hope you will be a part of continuing Chad’s legacy of service and brotherhood by contributing to the Chad Michael Memorial Scholarship.
