Konnor Award Application


The Delbert D. Konnor Award of Excellence in Pharmaceutical Administration was established to inspire and enable new scholarly work in the field of pharmaceutical administration. For the purposes of this award, this is defined as research in pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical marketing, pharmacy management, pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes, social-behavioral pharmacy, accounting, and pharmacy law. The award will be given in odd numbered years starting in 2025.

Eligibility

  • Students enrolled in a PharmD curriculum, pharmacists in academic programs leading to a graduate degree, or recent graduates (e.g., pharmacy residents and fellows), and
  • Dues-paying or Life Members in good standing of the Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity

Relevant Dates and Application Process

The application window will open in November of 2024. All applications will be due on Friday April 4, 2025. No late applications will be considered. An award decision will be made in early June with research expected to commence by September 1. Most projects are expected to take 18-24 months, with a maximum of no more than 4 years to complete.

The application must include:

  • A completed application form (see below)
  • A CV or resume of the applicant
  • A 10-page maximum project description covering:
    • Tentative Project Title
    • Background or rationale
    • Applicable mentor(s) and their biosketch
    • Research questions or hypothesis
    • Research methods
    • Workplan and timeline
    • Budget (excluding institutional overhead or mentor salary)
    • Research references

Applications will be judged based on the contribution of the research to the advancement of science and society and the feasibility of the project within the allotted time frame.

A selection committee, composed of at least four members (including pharmacy faculty, PDC, and PLEI leaders), will evaluate the applications. The Chair of the PLEI Board will mitigate conflicts of interest. The PLEI Executive Director will serve as a non-voting member of the selection committee.

Award Deliverables

The award will be given every other year at the Grand Council meeting, starting in 2025.

Awardees must:

  • Comply with all research regulations (e.g., IRB approval)
  • Complete the research within 4 years
  • Submit results for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Present the findings at the Phi Delta Chi Grand Council

The award funds will be disbursed via an initial disbursement of $2,500 upon selection. An additional $2,000 may be requested during the research with PLEI approval. The final amount will be disbursed after the manuscript submission to a peer-reviewed journal, bringing the final award total to $5,000.
